A Weekend in Dahanu: Where to Stay, What to Eat, What It Actually Costs

Most Dahanu travel pages will tell you it's a peaceful coastal getaway and leave you no wiser about what a night actually costs. Here's the practical version.

What a weekend really costs

Ranges rather than promises, because your accommodation choice swings the total more than anything else:

Going lower is genuinely possible. Take the local train instead of driving, pick a basic stay, eat where locals eat, and a couple can do this well under the bottom of that range. The train fare from Mumbai is small change.

Going higher is easy too — premium beach resorts on a long weekend will take you past the top of it.

The variable is almost entirely where you sleep. Food here is not expensive, and getting around costs very little.

Where to stay

Four different kinds of trip, really:

Beach resorts — convenience and sea views, easiest if the beach is the point of the trip.

• Treat Beach Resort & Spa, Gholvad — the more upmarket option, around 500 m from Bordi beach

Homestays — quieter, smaller, more personal. Bordi and Gholvad are where these cluster.

Farm and agro stays — for orchard country and a slower trip.

Budget hotels in town — sensible if beach atmosphere isn't what you came for and you just need a base.

On rates: check live prices before booking. They move a lot between weekdays, weekends and season, and any figure printed here would mislead you.

Booking ahead: Saturdays, long weekends and festival dates need earlier booking — particularly Bordi during the February Chikoo Festival, and anywhere near Dahanu during the Mahalaxmi yatra.

Travelling as a big family or group? Farm stays and villas are usually easier to arrange than blocking out several hotel rooms.

Where to eat

Dahanu's strengths are fresh seafood, Maharashtrian and Konkani cooking, chikoo in every form, and — as you move up toward Bordi and Udvada — a genuine Parsi influence.

What a seafood meal costs: roughly ₹200–₹500 per person for most fish, and meals in the ₹200–400 band are common. Premium fish can run well above that — ask the rate before you order, because it's priced by what came in that day, not by a fixed menu price.

Jain food: ask a vegetarian restaurant directly for Jain preparation rather than assuming it's on the menu.

Parsi food: you'll do better around Bordi and Udvada than in Dahanu town. If you're making the Udvada trip, plan to eat there — for a lot of visitors it's the main draw.

Warli food isn't something you'll find on a restaurant menu. It comes through farm stays and community experiences, if at all.

One thing to plan around: Dahanu is not a late-night town. Don't arrive at nine expecting Mumbai hours. Eat earlier than you would at home.

What costs nothing

• Both beaches, and the sunset from either
• Walking the town
• The temple
• The orchard countryside — worth a drive on its own

Farm tours and Warli workshops usually charge separately, so budget for those if you want them.

A sensible weekend

Saturday — early train or drive up, check in, lunch, afternoon on the beach, sunset at Bordi, seafood dinner.

Sunday — orchard visit or Mahalaxmi temple in the morning, unhurried lunch, leave by mid-afternoon to stay ahead of the Sunday-evening traffic into Mumbai.

That's the trip most people are actually looking for.
